SFDC Penguin - Spring '25 - Cover

Salesforce Spring ’25 Release Summary

Salesforce’s Spring ’25 Release is just around the corner, packed with exciting features across the platform. Read on for a quick breakdown of the key updates you’ll want to know.

NOTE: As always, features in the preview release notes are subject to change!

Analytics

Unified Analytics Experience & Reports and Dashboards

CRM Analytics

Einstein

It is no surprise that there are many AI updates in the upcoming release! Here are some of the main ones which caught my attention across Automation, Einstein Bots, Field Service, Marketing, Platform, Sales and Service. NOTE: These features often have specific licensing requirements.

Field Service

In addition to the Einstein related features and a number of Data Capture updates moving into General Availability, the following caught my attention:

List Views and Related Lists

Sales

In addition to the Einstein Sales updates, these points grabbed my interest:

Salesforce Flow

Flow Builder

Flow Management

Flow Approval Processes

There is a short, yet interesting section for Approval Processes in the Release Notes. For context, Approval Processes share the same architecture as Workflow Rules, which alongside Process Builder, will no longer be supported from 31st of December 2025. However, there are no plans to retire Approval Processes currently.

Spring ’25 overviews some features for Flow Approval Processes. This seems to be built on Flow Orchestrations and I assume will be the heir apparent to Approval Processes in time:

Service

Beyond the Einstein features, these updates stood out to me:

User Management & Permissions

User setup enhancements include the Enhanced Role List View (filter, search and inline edit), additional fields supported in the Enhanced User List View and a new Enhanced List View for Permission Sets. These all use Lightning Experience for a smoother admin experience and are enabled via: Setup | Users | User Management Settings.

In addition, here are a few highlights worth noting:

Other Updates

Here are some other noteworthy features and updates.

Activities

Content Delivery Network (CDN)

Development

Hyperforce

Hyperforce, Salesforce’s public cloud architecture built on AWS continues to expand.

  • Access Hyperforce Outbound IP Lists. Hyperforce IP addresses are now available in JSON format without authentication. New IPs are added 30 days before production use. If your business uses IP allowlists, it is recommended to review these every two weeks.

Identify and Access Management

Marketing Cloud Account Engagement

  • Get Helpful Resources for Enabling Marketing Cloud. Marketing Cloud Account Engagement has a new Optimizer page (Enable Marketing Cloud). This provides resources and checklists to help harness features such as Data Cloud, Agentforce and SMS.
  • Get More Visibility into Email Send Issues. Improved visibility into the reasons for email send failures via the Account Engagement Optimizer page (e.g. list of emails which failed, prospect name, company, failure reason, etc).

Marketing Cloud Growth and Advanced

  • Reach More People with WhatsAppConfigure two-way WhatsApp Conversations, including content supporting audio, video and documents, track performance metrics and manage communication preferences.

Phasing Out of Third-Party Cookies

As covered in Winter ’25, it’s crucial to prepare for upcoming third-party cookie restrictions.

Salesforce Connect

Salesforce Foundations

Announced at Dreamforce ’24 as a free upgrade for Sales and Service Cloud customers on Enterprise Edition and above, Salesforce Foundations has two key updates in Spring ’25.

Salesforce Lightning Design System 2 (SLDS2)

Release Updates

Each Salesforce release also brings crucial updates focused on performance, security and usability. The upcoming release includes several updates which will be enforced, as well as some recommended items.

Alongside the enforced items, Salesforce recommends enabling three updates:

NOTE: Release Updates are subject to change. The summary above is intended to help identify areas to prioritise. Always check the Release Updates in the Release Notes or refer to Release Updates in Setup for more info.

Feature Retirements

It’s equally important to stay informed about upcoming feature retirements to ensure you have time to prepare and minimise any risk of disruption. The table below highlights some key retirements to prepare for. For additional details, refer to the Salesforce Retirement Roadmap

Planning ahead is crucial, especially for complex orgs. In the near term, I would recommend paying particular attention to ensuring Einstein Activity Capture is using Org-Level OAuth 2.0 (if in use), transitioning to High-Volume Platform Events and ensuring you are prepared for the retirement of API Versions 21.0-30.0.

Summary

Spring ’25 is another big release, with many features to explore. As always, be sure to check out the Release Notes for further information.

Bonus Penguin Fact 🐧

Emperor penguins thrive in one of the world’s harshest environments, the Antarctic. This is only possible with incredible adaptations. One such example is how male Emperor penguins care for their chicks. Male Emperor penguins often go without food for 4 months whilst incubating their egg and protecting their chick.

When the chick hatches, it requires a regular supply of food to survive. Male Emperor penguins have evolved the ability to produce ‘crop milk’, a nutrient rich substance, produced in a pouch in their throat. Full of fats, proteins and antibodies, it can literally save the chick’s life until the chick’s mother return with food from their hunt. Learn more here.
